3 Things to Balance in the Work Place

There is a very simple basic principle in the work place and most of the leaders cannot master it. It is to balance three things in the work place; achieving the tasks, building the team and developing individuals in the team. It is a simple principle yet a lot of leader cannot balance the three areas effectively. However, if you are able to balance these three areas effectively, you and your team will have a great success in the long run. This article will explain why it is important to balance the three areas in the work place.

If you only focus only on achieving the tasks but fail to build you team and fail to develop individuals in it, your team may have a few success in the beginning but the result may not be very good in the long run. Your team may be motivated as you drive them very hard to achieve the tasks, however, their morale may be a bit low because they do not witness any of your supports by building teamwork or providing the necessary skills and knowledge.

Similarly, if you only focus on building team but do not care about achieving the tasks or developing individuals in the team, your team may only be happy in the beginning but you will lose them in the long run as they do not see any achievement in the team. You and your team may go out time to time and having fun. You may not probably encourage people to achieve the tasks. So, everyone in the team may be happy in the beginning because they do not feel any pressure and just have to enjoy happy time. However, they will sooner or later start feeling that they do not have any achievement at all. Then, they will realize that just having fun is not good enough for the long run if there is no achievement.

Developing individuals in the team is very important. However, if you only focusing on developing them but if you do not worry about achieving tasks or do not align their performance as a team, you will loss in the long run too. You may have a bunch of skillful people in your team but they may not worry about achieving better results or working as a team. Because of that you may not have a good working environment and success.

On the other hand, if you are able to balance these three areas effectively, you will have different results. You will lead your team to achieve the tasks by setting goals, building your team by recognizing them as individuals and developing them by coaching individually according to their strengths and areas for improvement. After all, you and your team will be having a lot of achievements and a good teamwork in the long run.
